    Credit Card Terminals

Credit card terminals are a very common sight in stores and restaurants throughout the developed world, and are necessary to process credit card information in any retail setting.

Most modern terminals will have a magnetic card reader, backlit display, and built-in keypad. Some also feature an integrated printer for receipts, while others can be hooked up to an external printer.

If you need to process transactions in many different locations, wireless card terminals can be very useful. In most cases, however, the unit will never need to go far from the counter, and buying a wireless terminal isn't worth the extra cost.

The cost of a standard credit card terminal can range from $150 to $600, depending on which features are included, and whether a printer is built in. Wireless units, meanwhile, will generally cost between $600 and $1000.

Before buying a terminal, you should make sure that it has AVS (address verification system) security functionality, which helps cut down on fraud, and is a standard feature on most (but not all) card reading devices. You should also check to make sure that your terminal of choice is able to accept debit cards. Again, this is available on most modern units but shouldn't be taken for granted.
