    Credit Card Processing

Accepting credit cards in your day-to-day business transactions may appear costly, with processors taking a percentage of your sales, but the convenience to your and your customers may well be worth the expense.

Allowing your customers to pay by credit card will greatly reduce the time you spend sending invoices, tracking payments, and waiting 30, 60, or even 90 days to be paid. It also makes things easier for your customers, potentially making them more inclined to buy from your business in the future.

There is no doubt that establishing your own credit card merchant account has its share of benefits, but it is important that you weigh out all the costs involved before making a final decision.

You will generally have to pay between a fee of 1.5% to 3.0% on all credit card sales, as well as a per-transaction fee of between 20 and 50 cents. Other potential costs include set-up fees, annual fees, customer support fees, and shipping and handling in the case of mail order and internet operations, not to mention the cost of credit card terminals for brick-and-mortar retail outlets.

Before deciding one way or another if credit card payment is right for your business, it is absolutely essential that you calculate the total costs and benefits involved.
