    Handheld Computers and PDAs

    The Personal Digital Assistant, or PDA, is one business-minded device whose functionality has increased in leaps and bounds for the past several years.

    The first modern PDAs, released in the mid 1990s, were little more than electronic notepads to keep notes, schedule appointments, and keep track of important business contacts. Nevertheless, they were a smash hit, and have since evolved into truly pocket-sized computers, with the ability to create and edit documents, watch videos, and communicate with the rest of the world.

    Most newer-model PDAs now include some way to get on the internet, such as a built-in Wi-Fi card, or even a cellular modem. The high-end cellular devices are often referred to as smartphones, and can be used to make phone calls and send emails.

    There is little doubt that handheld computing has increased mobility and efficiency for all kinds of businesspeople around the globe.
