Meaning of the CrestThe crysantheum represents the Dai-Nippon Butoku-Kai of which O'Sensei Kim was a graduate prior to WW2. This organization included most of the top martial artists of the era. Each specialized in their own discipline. This created a university type format whereby crosstraining in various martial disciplines resulted in effective well rounded martial artists. O'Sensei Kim was granted admittance to this prestigious organization through his Sensei Yoshida Kotaro. For many years O'Sensei Kim was the international representative for the Dai-Nippon Butoku-Kai. The Victoria cross is the highest military honor that Canada has. It represents the highest quality's of martial virtue, self sacrifice, and discipline. The blue star in the center signifies the metaphysical aspects of the martial sciences, the spiritual discipline required to truly become a martial artist. This area includes Nenriki (mind power) and mikkyo (secret esoteric knowledge). Martial artists fortunate enough to be initiated in these ancient methods, discovered the unlimited potential of the mind, and sought to develop it to its full capacity. The increase in mental capacity results in increased physical control and ability. |
