Instructor Profiles

Jeff Balsdon, Sandan
Jeff started his training at the age of ten at the Exeter Karate School directed by Sensei Ron Tyndall. At the age of 18 he received his Shodan in 1993. Jeff then trained under Dennis Farbatuik for the next several years and received his Nidan in 1996. Jeff's focus then turned toward operating and teaching the Exeter Karate School for Ron Tyndall until 1998 when Jeff took full control over the school. Since then Jeff has successfully ran several small tournaments involving the surrounding martial art schools. Most recently Jeff has expanded to the Wingham area. Jeff also received his Sandan under Sensei T.J. Kim in the fall of 2005.

Trudee Balsdon, Shodan
Trudee has been training diligenlty for the past 8 years under the watchful eye of her husband Jeff. She received her Shodan from Sensei T.J. Kim in the fall of 2005. Trudee also assists in helping her husband teach at both the Exeter and Wingham schools.

Sensei Donald Carey
Donald was introduced to Karate by Senseis Harold Warden, Gary Legacy, and John Pierson. He began formal Karate training at the age of 37, under Sensei Ronald Tyndall, and was fortunate enough to be taught, on occasion, by Richard Kim himself.

At the age of 45, Donald achieved the rank of Shodan at the Butoku Kai summer camp in Guelph, Ontario. He is a member of the Richard Kim Institute of Martial Science, and continues to study and train under the tutelage of Senseis T.J. Kim, Ronald Tyndall, and Jeff Balsdon.

Donald also teaches the Martial Arts privately, and at the Exeter dojo for long time student and friend, Jeff Balsdon.

Ron Tyndall
Ron's martial arts career began in 1972 when, beginning at the age of 22, he trained for two and a half years in Kung-Fu. In 1974, Ron joined a Shorin Ryu martial arts school run by Sensei Gary Legacy. He was trained by Senseis Marv Sharp and John Pierson for the next five years. Ron received his Black belt in 1979, and proceeded to open his own dojo (Karate school) two years later. In 1987, Ron's school joined the Butoku Kai of Canada, under O'Sensei Richard Kim.

After this, Ron went on to train for another 13 years under Senseis Dennis Farbatuik and Steve Foley. He received his 4th Dan in July 2000, and joined the Richard Kim Institute of Martial Science in June 2004, under Sensei T.J. Kim. The Richard Kim Institute granted Ron Tyndall his 5th Dan in 2006.

Peter Duskocy
Peter began his martial arts training in November 1985, at the age of 25, in the Shorin Tyu system. He received a first degree Black belt from the Butoku Kai Association in 1996. Peter enjoys the traditional martial arts form, and practices with different aspects of karate, the kata, weapons, Tai-chi, and the internal study of related arts.

Chanda McCaw
Chanda joined Sensei Ron Tyndall's Karate School for the first time in 1985, and rejoined in 1999 at the age of 28. She achieved the rank of Shodan at Shorin Ji Ryu in June 2006, under Sensei T.J. Kim.
