History of the Institute

The Richard Kim Institute of Martial Science is an organization dedicated to the study and teaching of the system of the late master O'Sensei Richard Kim. The definite chief aim of the organization is to produce effective martial artists and to create teachers to promote the knowledge and philosophy of the ancient martial disciplines. Within the study of combat, armed and unarmed we seek the development of the individual and strive for the perfection of physical, mental and spiritual qualities which comprise all human beings regardless of race or gender. The study of the martial sciences is a lifetime endeavor and ideally should be approached with this goal in mind. The study of the martial arts becomes the study of self and eventually the student developes into an artist of mind and becomes an artist of life.

The Richard Kim Institute of Martial Science is designed utilizing a university or private college type format. Students acquire course credits towards belt rankings and may work towards achieving a teaching degree. For each ranking level there is a physical examination and a written component. Each level is intended to broaden the knowledge of the student with the intention of creating well rounded instructors and eventually fully qualified teachers.
